This unit is about designing and applying fashion and photographic makeup and includes incorporating current fashion trends, historical/period and special occasion makeup. You will also learn about makeup for both colour and black and white photography

On completion of this unit you will:

  • be able to prepare for application and apply fashion photographic makeup
  • be able to follow a design brief and research requested looks
  • select correct products, tools, materials and lighting

You will create looks for the following:

  • period
  • fantasy
  • high fashion
  • catwalk
  • bridal
  • commercial
  • makeup for black & white photography
  • makeup for colour photography
  • makeup for fashion shows

You will learn the following techniques:

  • precision base
  • highlighting and shading
  • concealing
  • blending
  • stippling
  • precision application of eye products
  • precision application of lip products
  • colour mixing
  • stencilling
  • body makeup

You will consider the following additional media:

  • accessories
  • clothes
  • hair
  • nails

Entry Requirements:

  • you will need to have a good command of the English language
  • the ability to complete work on time
  • commitment to the course which is achieved by arriving to every class and on time
  • a willingness to learn
  • a love of makeup, hair & design

What to expect:

  • this course requires you to practice what you have learned regularly and to show your progress on Skype for your tutor to evidence
  • You will be required to complete 4 assessments at the academy at a later date when you are confident in your abilities
  • There is 1 (one) external exam paper that you are required to pass to achieve your unit qualification. You’ll need to achieve a minimum of 70% to pass and you can have up to 3 attempts
  • You will gain your practical knowledge in the classroom, and it is a requirement that you use our monitored online knowledge-based system on a regular basis

Course Duration and Times:

  • 4 days – 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. These days can run consecutively or one day per week for 4 weeks. We do our very best to work with you in selecting the days that suit you best but this is not always an option due to other courses running at the academy

Age requirements:

  • minimum 16 years – with no upper age limit

Progression:

  • you can attend any of our Level 1, level 2 or Level 3 course units
  • L2 Diploma in: Hair & Media Makeup
  • L3 Diploma in: Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair & Media Makeup
