This diploma is a technical level qualification for individuals seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed theatrical media makeup artist working with performers to a high level of occupational ability, providing hair and makeup services in the media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries

This qualification is based on hairdressing and beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s lead beauty therapy profession association (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a professional theatrical makeup artist

Why is this qualification most suitable?

This qualification is one of two qualifications in theatrical hair and media makeup. It is larger than the L3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Makeup Studies (QCF). Whilst both qualifications qualify learners to become a professional media makeup artist, this qualification requires learners to achieve more units and to develop a greater breadth of technical skills

Hence, this qualification is most suitable for learners who wish to focus the majority of their learning on hair and media makeup. In contrast, the smaller diploma in fashion, theatrical, media makeup and hair studies is more suited to learners who wish to undertake a level 3 technical level qualification alongside other smaller qualifications/units
